Copenhagen: Buddy Program

Get a new friend to introduce you to life in Denmark - or be the friend introducing a Ukrainian to Denmark.

The impacts of the invasion of Ukraine require understanding, humanity, and collaboration.

To support the Ukrainian refugees who arrive in Denmark, volunteers of the Ukrainian-Danish Youth House have suggested a concept that can make life a bit easier upon arrival and that creates a unique possibility for cultural exchange and friendships among young Ukrainians and Danes: A Buddy Program.

Having a buddy means that you will have someone to take a walk with, drink a cup of coffee with, someone to ask all the questions about everyday life in Denmark (public transport, systems, norms and rules etc), to be introduced to study and work life in Denmark, and someone to learn from about another culture. And hopefully it will plant the seed for a new friendship.

When you sign up to become someone’s buddy, we will match you with a person with similar interests, and then we all meet for an introductory meeting to se the frames. After that, you coordinate the meetings yourselves when and how it suits you best. We expect you to participate in 3 one-hour meetings that you agree between yourselves – and of course more, if you both agree.

The only requirements to sign up are that you are under the age of 35, and that you are open-minded, sensitive, and curious. If you speak other languages than English, you are very welcome to sign up.

Note! Even though the registration to get a buddy matched with you is closed, you can still get a buddy! Just show up for the solidarity café organised by Ungeråd KBH where we will meet and kick-start the program and do some social exercises. Maybe there will be a buddy for you!

We pilot the program in Copenhagen, and will expand it to other cities in Denmark if there is interest.
